Game Changer Mat

2019

A commission to design, illustrate, create and supply a 3m x 3m ‘Snakes and Ladders’ style mat, where you yourself are the counter, and can experience being in the game by throwing giant dice and walking on the mat.

36 individually illustrated squares depicting drainpipes instead of snakes, beanstalks instead of ladders; an environmental twist on the traditional game. The aim was to engage the public and raise awareness for a whole host of different environmental choices and ultimately discover whether they are a ‘Litter Free Hero’.

“The mat is fantastic, everyone loves it and the illustrations are gorgeous! Thank you for producing such a brilliant game!”

Fatberg

2019

Commissioned for an exhibition at Durlston Castle, Swanage.

The exhibition was to raise awareness of the consequence of fats and oils going into the drains.

“I loved making this…I had to include cotton buds, sanitary products, wet wipes, hair and artificial fats and grease. Using a multitude of different mediums, it was great to create something really disgusting for a change!”

Keep Swanage Beautiful

2018/19 Winner of National Open Commission

Swanage Tourist Information Centre Interactive Model

As part of the ‘Keep Swanage Beautiful’ campaign, the commission was to create an interactive model highlighting the correct and incorrect disposal of problematic and everyday waste products. Claire’s model design comprised of a central scene depicting a artists impression of Swanage, peephole boxes and an interactive quiz.

“I was so thrilled to win this commission, and what a joy this model was to make. I really enjoyed hand making everything, from model fish’n’chip huts, and tiny crabs, through to miniature doo poos and cigarette butts! It was such a clever idea to commission something that was attractive to the eye, yet had serious messages embedded within it. It was a pleasure to be involved.”

Reverse Graffiti

2019

For the campaign to ‘Keep Dorset Clean’, the commission was to design, make and provide 10 large (2.4 m x 1.3m) wooden stencils for use in Weymouth, Dorset.

“I thought this was an ingenious idea, so it was great to be involved. My giant stencils were used with a pressure washer…so the mark it left was just a cleaner bit of pavement. Totally environmentally friendly and really effective”

The success of this campaign has led to these illustrations being printed onto over 20 signs to display throughout the county.

Rain in the drain

2018/2019

A commission to design and paint a pavement mural highlighting the issue that all the drains in the area feed unfiltered into Poole Park Lake. The campaign was so successful that it led to a second commission to repaint it the following year.

“It was so nice to get feedback on this campaign from the public as I was painting. It was inspiring that the people and businesses appreciated a positive pavement mural, rather than a letter or other form of notice about the drains. It was also brilliant to work with Lakeland Temporary environmental friendly paints.”
